This plugin replaces the default gallery feature in WordPress 2.5 Lightbox/Slimbox/Greybox/Thickbox/lightview, Exif and Geo/GPS support (Google Map/Yahoo Map/MS Virtual Earth).

This plugin will use the same shortcode as the WP 2.5 gallery shortcode ““. So this will replace your gallery with some extra features like:

  • Extracting exif info, from Wordpress 2.5 exif info from images is stored in the database. Exif info will be display by the “boxes”
  • GEO/GPS support, if your image is geotagged, a icon will appear with a geo link to flash earth.
  • Out of the box support for many boxes (Lightbox/Slimbox/Greybox/Thickbox), no need to install them or put them in your theme.

For use of the shortcode http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_the_gallery_shortcode

Note: this is still very beta, and there will be some bugs, I need to do some valid XHTML and code cleanup. But some people ask me to release it, and I also need some people to test it on other wp installs.

  • Installation
    1. Unzip better-gallery in /wp-content/plugins/better-gallery
    2. Activate better-galley in Wordpress plugin panel
    3. Optional: highslide and lightview install
  • Highslide and Lightview are not included, because of their licenses. If you want to use them, you should download them from their site and add them in the better-gallery plugin directory if you agree on their license.
    http://vikjavev.no/highslide/ put all the highslide*.js in wp-content/plugins/better-gallery/highslide
    http://www.nickstakenburg.com/projects/lightview/ put lightview.js in wp-content/plugins/better-gallery/lightview/js

First off, I would like to say that I love this plugin, thank you so much!

I did some significant modification to it so it worked well for my site, including pagination. Would you like me to send a copy back to you?

How do you get actual thumbnails to show up on the page instead of the full images?

    Using [gallery size="thumbnail"] doesn’t make any difference…

also, your script doesn’t include the NECESSARY content to display galleries properly on the pages (especially in IE) that wp-includes/media.php contains around line 381 (style sheet declarations and such).

I had the gallery looking great with your plugin in FF, then Jason’s comment made me look at my site in IE and the formating for the entire page is gone. How do we correct this? This seems like a simple enough style issue, if you are a coder, which I am not. I hope you can help us fix this.

    Thanks.

Is this working in 2.6? Cant seem to get it going. What changes would I need to make for it replace the lightbox and other gallery plugins I was trying out? I disabled all of them, but still cant get it to go.
    Thanks!

    Hi.
I’m using this plugin for my site, and for galleries it’s working well.
But… It’s incompatible with Tickbox as well as “normal” Lightbox.
So, how can I put a single image with allowed resizing in a post together other images without create a gallery?
My site talk about photography, and often I need to use some images like explanation and only one or two like “examples”, with teir own lightbox, resizing…
But if I try to insert that images, I’ve only the possibility to insert one size “fixed” photo or a gallery with all images uploaded in that post.
    Have I another possibility?
    WP 2.7, currently.
    Tkanks.

Cloud computing is great conceptually, but there is still a lot of FUD out there about what it is and how it works exactly. ,

Thanks so much for this plugin. After going round and round with several other gallery plugins that I could never get to work, it was such a relief to activate this one and see it working immediately.

    Good Work.
