Some people ask me about my geotag workflow on my site, so here it is:
My hardware: Nikon D80 DSLR and a Qstarz BT-Q1200 GPS logger with spare battery. This logger uses a nokia battery. So easy to get a replace ment.
Workflow:
- I shoot in RAW (NEF).
- GPS logger, is always logging when I walk around with my cam.
- With the software from van Qstarz, TravelRecorderV3 I export a .gxp en and in their own binary format for archival. This toll is a little buggy, so I am looking for a alternative (If you know one, tell me). The TravelRecorderV3 can also tag, but only .jpg, and not raw’s. So I dont use the tag function.
- With gpicsync I geotag my raw’s. Also this tool ads place and country names as exif tag. This tool is very good, open source and can tag a lot of raw formats.
- Import in Lightroom. Lightroom see also the place, province, and country names as exig tag’s.
- Process in Lightroom / Photoshop en export to jpg and but it on my blog/photoblog/flickr etc…
- The .gpx I add sometime to my post in my blog, If u use then the xml google map plugin. You can see your route and elevation chart on your blog.
So this is basic my workflow.
Here a GPX file attached in a wordpress post and with the xml google map plugin. This GPX is from my trip to Wenshu temple in Chengdu, China 2 weeks ago:
And some geotagged pictures, this is the new gallery shortcode from WP, I added the lightview box and the Flashearth box my self. When I finish my plugin you can download it later on my blog.
After a long time no update on my blog, here a new update. Last month, I went for trip to China again.
On my trips now, I take a GPS logger with me, so I can geotag my pictures and retrace my route, so from now on, you see many pictures on my blog and gallery geotagged!
Here is a great example from last week, I went 2 days to mount QingChen in China, close to Chengdu.
I use now also a new gallery, fist I wanted to use the new gallery in wordpress 2.5, but I did not quit like it. So I hacked my own version, it fully compatible with the WP one. Now it uses greybox, fetches EXIF and GPS info, enjoy….
